Transfer Window Review

Last updated : 13 September 2013 By Michael Morris

As the transfer windows closed on September 2nd Cardiff City managed to squeeze one more player into the club. Peter Odemwingie, a player with a reputation for making pointless journeys to West London, got it right this time and found his way to South Wales and signed for Cardiff.

The Nigerian becomes the final piece in Malky Mackay's Premier League jigsaw and the injection of attacking experience needed if Cardiff are going to stay in is division. Odemwingie brings goals, he has scored 30 in less than 90 Premier League games for West Brom since his 2010 Premier League.

He joins seven other new players at Cardiff City Stadium as The Bluebirds smashed record after record to become the 7th highest spenders in the Premier League this summer.

Of the the eight players signed this summer two have made an immediate impact in the first team. Steven Caulker is a superb centre half and already an England international. Gary Medel 'El Pitbull' is just the most superb defensive midfielder -- you would always want him him playing for your side, not against it. He can tackle, pass, tackle, win headers, tackle and shoot. Oh, and did I mention he can tackle? An immediate fans' favourite.

I think Odemwingie and full back Kevin Theophile-Catherine who joined as City drew with Everton will also quickly integrate into the first team. Cardiff have also signed Andreas Cornelius -- the Danish league's leading scorer last season -- but injury has hampered his progress. John Brayford came from Derby with high hopes of being first choice right back but he's been conspicuous by his absence.

Two other players have been signed with a view to the future. Simon Moore was Brentford's No.1 last season but he arrives a Cardiff as third choice keeper. And the eighth player signed is Maximiliano Amondarain, the 20 year old Uruguayan has penned a four year deal after a successful trial. I think Mackay has signed wisely, not making reckless purchases but adding quality, experience and potential to the squad that romped away with the Championship last season to hopefully mould a squad that will stay in the Premier League this season.
