Trollope v Monk. Two managers under pressure

Cardiff face Leeds in the 12:30 live TV game today with focus on both managers.

It's been a terrible start to the season for both teams but Leeds come into the game after managing a win over Blackburn in midweek. Cardiff on the other hand have lost the last three games and are showing little signs of it getting any better.

While it would seem that Paul Trollope's position is not under immediate threat the run of results is certainly concerning. Monk on the other hand has been rumoured to be one bad result away from the bullet in the last couple of weeks despite it being his first season at Elland Rd.

“There is always need for short-term results, Said Trolllpe ahead of today's game. "Whether your philosophy is built on a five year plan or not, you need to win in the short term. No-one is under any illusions that isn’t the case.

“You are always trying to balance the philosophy of getting those short-term wins but also with an eye on things in the future.

“If the points total would have been better in those first few games - probably what we deserved - then Tuesday would have been perceived differently because it was the first time we had a real dip in performance. But the fact is the first set of results haven’t been good enough, not what we expected and what we’ve worked very hard for. We have to stick together and make sure we improve.

"There’s no one more frustrated than me with results. Not all the performances because we look at processes and how we do things we’ve been pleased with things and the way we’ve worked and things will maybe take time to evolve, but frustration is normal and the only way to put it right is to win games which we need to do.”

Much has been said about Trollope's desire to play a certain way but he's open to change if it means reults will improve.

"We're always looking at the system. A lot has been said about how it works, its benefits and shortfalls but the majority of games it’s functioned very well.

“However we've not got desired results and we know there’s need to be adaptable and flexible and we’ve shown that within games.

“Ultimately, and I've said this all along, you need a way to win and if it needs a change of shape we will – and I'm not afraid to do it.

“Similarly, if I think it’s right way to go forward I’ll stick with it and persevere, but certainly the results have not been what we wanted using it in first part of season and we know we need to improve.”

Gary Monk is focussing on his players and today's game.

“We have to respect Cardiff but really go down there with the intention that we had on Tuesday night, to keep that momentum going, the confidence that we took from that game and put that on to the pitch.

“We will be determined to do that and try and improve on what we have done before and go down there which is a difficult place to play but try and get a real performance and a positive result.”

"We go down there fully focused on what we have to do, we have to be ready and determined to put a good performance on and get a positive result and that’s all we are going to concentrate on.”
