Wales welcomed home with open bus parade today

The Wales football team will have an open top bus parade through Cardiff this afternoon culminating with a party at Cardiff City Stadium.

The free event at the ground where Wales play their home international games will see a three song set by The Manic Street Preachers with the squad of players getting a one by one introduction to an expected sell out crowd.

The open top bus will leave the castle at 4pm and is expected to take about 90 minutes to get to CCS. There are a number of road closures in Cardiff today (details below)

Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected on the streets of Cardiff with 33,000 free tickets snapped up for the party at CCS.

Large parts of Cardiff city centre will be closed to traffic throughout the afternoon because of the parade.

Here are the details.

The bus will leave the Castle at shortly after 4pm and will drive High Street, then St Mary Street onto Wood Street, right into Westgate Street, turning left over Canton Bridge, going straight on to Wellington Street, turning left into Leckwith Road arriving at Cardiff City Stadium at 5.30pm. To facilitate this, the following roads will be closed:

Full road closure from 2.30pm until 5. 50pm:

  • Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.
  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment.)
  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted.)
  • Saunders Road from its junction with St Mary Street

The following roads will be closed in their entirety:

  • Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.
  • Customhouse Street throughout its length (access to private car parks will be permitted) Penarth Road from its junction with Saunders Road to the entrance leading into the rear of the Central Train Station.

The road closure times could be extended depending on the number of people that attend the event.

The following roads will be closed from 4.00pm until 6. 00pm

  • Cowbridge Road East (from Canton Bridge to the junction with Wellington Street), Wellington Street & Leckwith Road.
