Washing dirty linen in public is a threat to survival

Malky Mackay harbours a steely determination to succeed in the Premier league by keeping Cardiff City in the division come next May.

But events of the past few days that has seen Mackay threatened with the sack, receive huge support from Cardiff fans at Liverpool then be told he was in the job 'for the foreseeable future' has invited the whole world to monitor the goings on at Cardiff City Stadium.

Asked if the situation may hinder their hopes of staying up, he replied: "Yes, absolutely."

"You can't have your dirty linen washed in public every week of the year without it affecting the club," continued Mackay.

"I'm not saying it immediately affects the players because that's my job to make sure I protect them."

Cardiff face two huge games just 48 hours apart. Both at home. Southampton on Boxing Day 3:00pm and Sunderland on Saturday 5:30pm.

"I want to make sure we stay in this league," added Mackay.

"I've got my main focus and there's a steely determination to make sure everything is done to protect the players so we've got the best chance to stay in this league."
