POLICE believe Ninian Park is now among the safest soccer grounds in Britain.

And they have also praised the behaviour of Cardiff City fans - once among the most feared around - on away trips.

There have been fewer than 20 arrests at City home games this season even though a total of almost 300,000 spectators have attended Coca-Cola Championship matches, while 74 Bluebirds fans were arrested on away trips.

The majority of those were for drinking. That compares with 152 arrests two years ago and 118 arrests last year.

Pc Simon Insole, South Wales Police liaison officer, said: "The behaviour of Cardiff City fans, particularly at home, has improved beyond recognition.

"Just look back to the Bristol City and Leeds United matches of a few years ago and it's clear how far they have come.

"Ninian Park is now one of the safest stadiums around to come to.
