Wigan still on top, Division 1 review

Last updated : 22 September 2003 By Michael Morris
Paul Jewell's Wigan are at it again. After a defeat and a draw to start the season they have won 6 in a row to top Division 1 in their first season at this level. Watford were the slain team at the JJB yesterday.

Cardiff welcome Wigan to Ninian Park a week Tuesday, before then City entertain West Ham in the Carling Cup and Crewe in Division 1.

City's victors, Sheff Utd, move into second place while West Brom are third after a 2 - 2 draw at Crystal Palace.

Wimbledon are rock bottom with Watford and Rotherham joining them in the bottom three.

Special mention to Mart Poom, the Sunderland keeper was back at Pride Park playing against his old club Derby. The Rams scored what they thought was a 90th minute winner only for Sunderland to level deep into injury time, Poom was the scorer as he out jumped the Derby defence to score from a corner. Schmeical move over.

Other shocks included a 3 - 1 win for Crewe over Forest, a 2- 0 win for Gillingham over West Ham and Coventry beating Reading at the Madejski.

Results from September 20th.
