Cardiff City defender Krystian Bielik has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following an incident involving a Portsmouth supporter during the Bluebirds' defeat at Fratton Park.
The incident occurred during Cardiff's 2-0 Championship loss to Portsmouth on Saturday, 5 September, when Bielik went into the crowd to retrieve the ball during the second half.
The FA has alleged that the Poland international "acted in an improper manner around the 71st minute of the match."
Bielik has until Friday, 25 September to respond to the charge.
Hampshire Police were called after the incident and subsequently opened an investigation. That investigation has now been concluded, with police confirming that no further action will be taken.
A police statement read:
"Following an incident involving a Portsmouth FC supporter and a Cardiff player at Fratton Park on 5 September 2026, we have now concluded our investigation.
"After speaking with the complainant and reviewing all available evidence, the matter has been resolved by way of an out-of-court disposal, agreed by all parties involved. As part of this resolution, an apology has been provided by the player.
"The matter is now considered closed, and no further action will be taken in relation to this incident."
Bielik became involved in a confrontation with a supporter while attempting to recover the ball from the crowd. Several Portsmouth fans reacted during the incident, with some appearing to indicate that the supporter had been grabbed around the throat.
Cardiff head coach Brian Barry-Murphy said after the game that Bielik "got slapped in the face", while footage subsequently circulated online appeared to show the Cardiff defender grabbing the young supporter around the upper body.
The incident also involved another supporter, who threw a ball towards Cardiff defender Perry Ng. Both fans were removed from the stadium.
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho apologised to Cardiff's players immediately after the match over the incident.
Mousinho later said he was "absolutely furious" after watching footage of what had happened, having initially based his comments on the information given to him at the time.
The FA charge means the matter will now be dealt with separately from the police investigation, which has been formally closed.
