Cardiff City head into Saturday’s lunchtime clash with
Charlton Athletic still searching for that elusive first league win of the
season.
The 1-0 defeat at Bolton last weekend was another
frustrating afternoon, particularly after Cardiff had enjoyed plenty of
possession and chances. The problem is becoming increasingly obvious: the
Bluebirds are getting into good positions but aren't making enough of them
count.
Charlton arrive in Cardiff sitting sixth, although their
recent form has been less impressive than their league position suggests.
Nathan Jones’ side have drawn their last two games 0-0 and haven't scored in
their last three Championship matches.
For Cardiff, this is another home game where the supporters
will expect to see the side take the initiative. All three league games at
Cardiff City Stadium have ended in draws so far, so there is evidence that
Cardiff can compete on their own patch – but they now need to turn performances
into three points.
There should be plenty of familiar faces too, with former
Bluebird Karlan Grant now back at Charlton after returning to the Addicks this
summer.
After seven games without a win, patience is inevitably
being tested. Saturday gives Cardiff another opportunity to change the mood
around the stadium – but against an organised Charlton side, they'll need to be
much more clinical when the chances arrive.
