Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy was speaking after today's win over Swindon:
“We're very pleased to get through, in a tournament that
was very special to us last season.
“The main objective today was to get through to the
second round, so we're very pleased to achieve that.
“I think a Cup game, when it comes round, is always
different to the pre-season fixtures, whatever they look like. So, we're very
pleased to get that first game under our belts. We did really well and we can
obviously do better, but where we are in the season, I think it's perfectly
normal.
“I think we can improve. Parts of our game were very good
- as in previous weeks, we're making good progress. But the game became quite
different in the second half, and it was a very dry day. We found it hard to
play our normal style as the game went on, but it was a good test for us.”
Swindon manager Ian Holloway:
"Good start, good end. Some of the bits in the middle weren't the best.
"Playing against a really good team, they got into a bit of a rhythm after we shocked them and scored, then we had another couple of chances and didn't take them, and then they sort of dominated it.
"What we were doing wasn't right. I thought we looked a little bit leggy, and we were very lucky not to be three down by halftime when they crashed the bar.
"But I told them at halftime, 'I can help you.' I spoke about what the forwards need to do, and changed the formation slightly.
"Then I made some subs after we equalised, or just before, and I think it was great for Joseph to show what he can do.
"There were some really good performances from people, and I am bitterly disappointed that we've ended up losing three-two, because we did hit the post.
"I think it was a lot closer than they thought it would be, but I'm disappointed we haven't got something.
"They had almost the same squad from last year and I had eight new players, so it is always going to take us some time.
"I think that we have got some ingredients, and we are getting better and better.
"I'm delighted with everybody in every way, apart from the fact that we lost, and sometimes you lose in the style that you want, and you can take it. If they're going to play like that from me, I'll have that every day of the week."
"I thought it was as harsh as you'll ever see. Was that a deliberate handball? It might have hit him on the end, but honestly.
"I just saw the World Cup, and aren't we all trying to copy them and see where we're going?
"There were all sorts of things, but I thought that was incredibly soft and harsh, to say the least, and then when we looked like we should have had one, and he didn't give it."
