Rubin Colwill has picked up a rather nice bit of silverware to go with the memories of that free-kick.
The Cardiff City midfielder has been named the winner of the inaugural Compare the Market Goal Hero of the Month award for August, with his stoppage-time strike against Wrexham taking the honours.
With Cardiff facing a frustrating wait for an equaliser in the all-Welsh clash, Colwill stepped up and produced a spectacular free-kick in the dying seconds to rescue a point for the Bluebirds.
It was the sort of goal that had everything – a derby, late drama, a packed stadium and a midfielder picking the perfect moment to produce something special.
The new monthly award celebrates goals from across the Championship, League One and League Two that have particular significance for the clubs, players and supporters involved.
Colwill was presented with the trophy at Cardiff City's training ground earlier this week by Aleksandr, the famous Compare the Market meerkat.
"It's great to win this award. At the time it was a really special moment and to get recognition for that is really nice," the Welshman explained.
"It was an unbelievable feeling, a great moment for all the fans in the stadium, for the boys and for the team. It was one of those things that you just wait for in your career."
Compare the Market's Chief Customer Officer Tom Wallis said Colwill's effort was exactly the kind of goal the new award was created to recognise.
"The Goal Hero of the Month is all about recognising the goals that mean that little bit extra for fans, and it doesn’t get more memorable than a stoppage time derby day screamer such as Rubin’s," Wallis said.
"The bar is high, but we’re all really excited to see which EFL goals will get recognised across the season!"
Former Cardiff City striker Robert Earnshaw, who is part of the judging panel, also believes the award is about more than simply picking the best-looking goal.
"Across the EFL, every week produces moments that can potentially define a season for a club.
"This award gives us the chance to celebrate those stories from across all 72 clubs and recognise the goals that carry real meaning for players and supporters."
Each month, a selection of goals will be considered by the judging panel before one is chosen as the Goal Hero of the Month.
And with the panel including Earnshaw, there is at least one person involved who knows exactly what it means to produce a memorable moment in a Cardiff shirt.
The award forms part of a wider partnership between Compare the Market and the EFL, with supporters from all 72 clubs set to be offered opportunities to win various prizes throughout the season.
The current prize draw gives fans the chance to win tickets to EFL home matches.
For Colwill, though, the biggest prize may simply be having his name attached to a goal that Cardiff supporters are unlikely to forget anytime soon.
