Cardiff twice took the lead at Pride Park but were pegged back on both occasions in an entertaining draw.
The game began at a frantic pace, with Rubin Colwill seeing an early effort tipped onto the crossbar as both sides created chances. Derby had three decent efforts in the opening minutes. City then took the lead in the 19th minute when Cian Ashford finished from close range after Ronan Kpakio had helped create the opportunity.
Derby levelled through Carlton Morris seven minutes later, but Cardiff restored their advantage before half-time. A fantastic team goal that started with City winning possession in their own half., Ollie Tanner and Colwill broke with pace down the right and Tanner's ball played in Colwill who crossed for Salech to finish.
Derby came out strongly after the break and equalised again just two minutes into the second half, Bobby Clark firing home to make it 2–2.
Despite having no recognised central defenders Cardiff decided to dominate the play and were unlucky not to come home with all three points as they looked the more settled side as the game wore on.
That's two draws from the opening two League games of the season. Sheffield Utd come to CCS next Saturday. Utd have also drawn their opening games, both 0 - 0.
