medelThis signing has turned heads in the football world. Medel watched today's win over Bilbao from the Directors Box at CCS.

As revealed in the early hours of this morning City were close to signing Medel.

Last night he played his final game for Seville as they beat Man Utd at Old Trafford in Rio Ferdinand's testimonial.

Medel, nicknamed 'El Pitbull' is a combative midfielder and his price tag means he becomes a record transfer for Cardiff breaking the £7.5m paid for Andreas Cornelius and the £8m paid for Steven Caulker.

Boss Malky mackay said:

“He was our guest here today.

“He was one of the top midfielders in La Liga last season and is an experienced international with more than 50 caps for Chile.

“He has played for Boca Juniors and Sevilla, so has a very good pedigree. Gary is a tenacious and intellgent international midfielder.

“He is a combative, defensive midfield player.

“We’ve been on the look out for a player like Gary for a while.

“His experience will be an invaluable asset to our squad.”

Now he joins up with his national side as they face Iraq in Denmark this week before joining up with the City squad to face West Ham on Saturday.
