Following the sacking of Jan Siewert last night Hudson has been given the task of preparing The Terriers for their visit to Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday.
Huddersfield have not won since February so the board dismissed Siewert straight after last night's 2 - 1 home loss to Fulham.
They have just one point from three League games this season and were dumped out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday by League One side Lincoln.
Hudson left Cardiff for Huddersfield in 2014, previously captaining the Bluebirds to the Championship title in 2013.
He skippered Huddersfield to promotion to the Premier League via the play offs in 2017.
