the walls came tumbling down.

Robert Earnshaw had given Wales a second half lead but Poland scored on 72, 81 and 85 mins. John Hartson headed an injury time goal but it was not enough.

James Collins and Daniel Gabbidon played 90 mins together at the heart of the Wales defence and for 72 mins of that time were excellent. Collins, despite a lapse that saw Poland get their first goal, was still awrded man of the match by Sky.

Paul Parry came on for the last 5 mins + injury time.

Wales are now seven points behind 2nd placed Poland. Only the most optimisitic optimist would still think Wales have a chance at qualification.

Gary Speed also announced his retirement from international football with immediate effect.
