Yousef Salech
How the summer has gone?
"Really good. Just finished the last week of pre-season," he began.
"I think we've had a good pre-season as a squad. A new coach has come in and we’ve built on that from day one."
On training and new manager Brian Barry-Murphy
"I've enjoyed it a lot. I think all the players have too.
"We've been training very specifically on what we want to improve and how we want to play the games. I see a big improvement in that throughout the pre-season, and every day in training.
"Hopefully we can bring that onto the pitch on Saturday.
"He has a very clear structure and a way of seeing how football should be played, and it's been about getting that under our skin.
"We know our basic positions and how to run for each other and at what moments, how to offer the best solution for each other on the pitch. We're creating a lot of chances now in pre-season, and it feels like we are very dangerous as a team right now.
"As a striker it’s about learning what my team mates can do in certain situations and I try to do the right things as well in terms of being in the box at the right time."
Are you happy at Cardiff?
"I'm really happy at Cardiff. It obviously wasn't long ago I joined, and I've enjoyed every part of it so far. So I'm happy at Cardiff."
Have you had any offers from other clubs?
"I don't speak to any clubs personally, but if the club does or an agent does, that's their job. I'm just coming into training every day and trying to improve and do my best for the team."
Targeting promotion?
"Obviously. As a striker you want to score goals and help the team win games. Especially now that we went down a division there. Obviously the goal for the whole club is to get back up and to do it the best way possible.
"I think we have incredible quality in the squad and the quality’s been more visible since Brian came in. We look better now than we did three or four months ago."
Disappointed to get relegated?
"Every player has their own goals. Every player has the goal to play in the PL one day. It wasn’t the best possible outcome for what I hoped. It was hard for everyone at the club, but you need to look ahead of you. This was a big loss for everyone, but we realise we can't do anything about the past and do everything we can to prepare for next season.
"We didn’t win enough games and there’s things we can change everywhere. We’re building a really good environment together."
Are you surprised there are no new players in the squad?
"Not really. It’s not only his job to bring in players. I think we have a good squad and I think he would say the same if you asked him."
Are you confident of scoring in League One?
"Obviously. I think Callum has scored goals in every division he’s played in and I back myself to do the same.
"I’m confident the club can go straight back up."
Is the speculation around your future a compliment?
"I haven't really heard a lot or spoken to anyone, but it's more that you do well, you speak to your team-mates and you feel the feeling of scoring a goal and people treating you well.
"That's what gives you confidence. It's not really anything from outside the club to be honest."
